European Green Deal
The Green Deal, as announced by the European Commission, is a broad set of policy initiatives that are intended to guide the European Union to become climate neutral in 2050. The Green Deal is the most ambitious policy initiative that the EU has undertaken in its ambition to tackle climate change. The plan includes plans regarding CO2 reduction, circular economy, building renovation, sustainable transportation, chemicals strategy, innovation and biodiversity.
What is our view on the Green Deal?
AkzoNobel welcomes the European Green Deal, as it will guide the EU’s sustainable transition, further improving its competitiveness, resilience and social well-being. As a global and Europe’s largest player in paints and coatings, we work to Paint the Future and ensure that sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Every major transition of this scale can only be a joint effort. We are committed to playing our part.
How will AkzoNobel contribute to the Green Deal?
Through our resolve to Paint the Future we’ve set ambitious targets that contribute to the targets in the Green Deal and these targets are aligned with the Paris Agreement on climate change. We’re set on halving our own CO2 emissions by 2030 and becoming climate neutral in 2050. We aim to reduce carbon emissions in our value chain by 50% by 2030 (baseline 2018), use 100% renewable energy in our operations by that same year and become zero waste as well.
